THE SUBMARINES + HEADLIGHTS Live at Mercury Lounge

The Submarines and the Headlights have been on together for a bit now. Both of them played Mercury Lounge and were quite complimenting of each other’s airy pop sounds. Here are some videos from that sweet and oddly enough really early show.

MGMT Electric Feel MUSIC VIDEO

The electried duo who’s debut record had caught on fire the last year has unleashed a brand new music video, or at least another music video for their hit “Electric Feel.”

Psychedelic, funky, sexy, lusty, fresh and disco-esque, the “Electric Feel” music video completely addresses the song’s vibe.  With the duo walking around the Amazon surrounded by a slew of cladly dressed females smothered in psychedelic ooze prancing around like heroin induced horny maniacs, the video’s message is quite clear.  Or is it…

THE VOLUNTARY BUTLER SCHEME Laundry MP3

THE VOLUNTARY BUTLER SCHEME

Rob Jones aka The Voluntary Butler Scheme has been quickly and also at the same time churning quality and quite nostalgic pop tunes for a bit now. When not accompanying The Boy Least Likely To live or performing percussion for The School, he sings and swooshes out little pop gems as The Voluntary Butler Scheme.

Unlike his contemporaries, Rob’s penning and production is quite authentic sounding. If one were to close their eyes and lazily lay down on their couch while listening to his tunes, they would be quickly transported back to the late 60s to early 70s where colors looked worn out and fall leaves were layered in bright orange and reds.

So after much time has passed, he will finally be releasing music to be purchased. An EP titled from one his songs Trading Things In will be released July 21st. So while you wait, check him out on tour in the UK and listen to his spring-time filled quirky pop song “Laundry.”

BECK "Chemtrails" MP3

Beck

I haven’t really been paying attention lately. I’ve been stacked with work and with music coming out the wazoo it’s hard to keep track of what’s been going out. Every band since the Radiohead fiasco has been pushing their releases ahead of time or even surprising us with brand new albums right away.

Well, there’s been news that Beck is already at work and will be unleashing something quite new real soon.

But the big news is that a clip of a track called “Chemtrails” from the upcoming record has leaked. In collaboration with DangerMouse, the track completely takes us to a path where Beck may have never tip toed into. The song is dark, ethereal, surreal and dreamy. It almost feels like something David Bowie may have conjured up. But is it of no coincidence that David Bowie a few years ago has hand-picked Beck as one of today’s cream of the crop?

I had always fantasized about Beck going elecro-bossa nova, but where ever this album may take us may be quite a colorful journey. Fingers crossed for some more goodness from the multi-masked wonder.

WALLPAPER. T Rex + World Domination?

WALLPAPER

West coast booty thumpin’ duo Wallpaper. had planned on world domination but unfortunately those plans were sunken. But at least they dropped a new single not too long called “T Rex” which is quite the bouncy bounce that recalls 80s funk that had you clappin’ on the streets while poppin’ or at least pretending to be poppin’ on the west coast. You can check out the jam on their MySpace.

Since the world tour was canceled, they are making it up by planning to pass the east coast this summer. So be on the watch for some even more heat this summer.

BLACK KIDS Hurricane Jane MUSIC VIDEO

Well, this year’s hype mongers will finally have their debut full-length Partie Traumatic; due July 22, 2008 on Columbia in North America and July 7, 2008 on Almost Gold in the United Kingdom.

One of the original tracks from their Wizard of Ahhhs that got them their claim-to-fame received much needed cleaning and tweaking and of course a music video! “Hurricane Jane”, the song that begins with that little funky lick in the beginning recalls 80s cheese. With no real plot or direction just see the kids sitting and singing along while every now and then it’ll cut-off to Youngblood running through a desolate pyramid-filled landscape while wearing a cape.

The single for “Hurricane Jane” will be out June 24th.

I LOVE MATH Josephine Street MP3

First there was Math & Physics Club and now there’s I Love Math. Is there some strange academian-pop happening here?

But where as Math & Physics Club find their lineage of influences more in tune with bands such as Belle and Sebastian, The Lucksmiths, Magnetic Fields, The Softies and Beat Happening, I Love Math find their’s heading towards more of the twang and tinged fellows suchs as The Replacements, Lonestar, Markers Mark and even Willie Nelson.

THE VERY MOST Congratulations Forever

THE VERY MOST

When I think of Boise, Idaho I think of corn. But, am is that even right? But when I think of Sweden, Britain, California the images and sounds of pop music do resonate. But Boise, Idaho… hmmm… has Jeremy Jensen.

Jeremy Jensen and crew (Von House, Allen Ellis, Gia Trotter) create summery pop music in their pop group The Very Most. Their full-length debut Congratulations Forever is so vibrant that their location becomes just a second thought. They wear their influences such as The Beach Boys, Big Star and The Beatles quite well on their sleeves.

Listening to their songs such as “Good Fight Fighting” and album titled track “Congratulations Forever” passports you away over to the west coast where the sun is bright and the breeze is blowing and The Beach Boys were beach gods.
