CULTS "Go Outside" (Menahan Street Band Remix) MP3

Cults

The cool thing about indie pop songs these days is that I’ve seen and heard more and more of them remixed. Although I don’t consider Cults to be part of the “indie pop community,” their song “Go Outside” has brought them to stardom in the sense songs such as “Postcards From Italy” did for Beirut.

Now, their cult (haha, get it? Cult? haha…) hit “Go Outside” was previously remixed by Brainbheats which took their sugary pop single into a electronic realm. But this new Menahan Street Band remix keeps the song’s fun pop aspects and adds a more nostalgic element with the more sixties jangling guitars and organs much more prominent. It’s not to different from the original but adds just enough of a different vibe to make it more than fun enough to add to your collection.

TV GIRL "Benny And The Jetts" MP3

TV Girl

When I usually see a band as being labeled as “indie pop” I shrug it off. The label and genre has gotten much more broad with every blogger, writer, journalist and editor using it to describe almost every band’s songs. I’ve even heard certain Cut Copy’s songs being described as “indie pop.” Seriously, who are you? How old are you?

But San Diego’s TV Girl made a little buzz for themselves when they sampled Todd Rundgren’s “Hello, It’s Me.” And this time around they did the same with Elton John’s classic “Benny And The Jetts.” The original lingering in the background the band drowns the rest of the song in a frenzy of fuzzy AM pop. And the rest of their new Benny And The Jetts EP (which can be downloaded from their BandCamp) follows the same sunny direction.

And what did that prior rant about “indie pop” have to do with TV Girl? Well, these guys are one of the few that has been tagged with the label that I feel can actually carry it with their bubbling sounds. Make sure to download their EP. If you’re into indie pop the way I am you’ll absolutely enjoy it.

BEIRUT "Santa Fe" MP3

Beirut

Although “Santa Fe” is no “Postcards From Italy,” it’s different enough to keep me interested in Beirut’s old world tinkerings. Taking a break from his Ukulele, the song is surprisingly lead by a chiming keyboard. And what keeps it Beirut are Zach Condon’s ever full-grown vocals crooning away and the eventual accompaniment of the horns and brass section. Imagine a mix between what Beirut is usually known for and Condon’s other project The Real People.

The song is part of his new album The Rip Tide which will be released digitally on August 2nd, 2011 and then physically on Condon’s own label Pompeii Records.

TWIN SISTER "Bad Street" MP3 + OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

Twin Sister
Here it is, the first official music video for their upcoming album In Heaven and lead single “Bad Street.” Prior to moving to New York, I always imagined that this is what house parties would look and feel like. Although after a few years I still have yet to have experienced a New York City summer house part of any sort, the music video captivates just what that imaginary or nostalgic take on a summer party would be like.

According to the YouTube info the music video was “Shot at lead singer Andrea Estella’s family’s house in Long Island and populated by her bandmates, friends and family, the video is a genuine peek into one of the many worlds that have shaped Twin Sister’s wide ranging styles.” (It was directed by Dan Devine and produced by Daniel Gausman) The soothing funky vibes fit perfectly right in with the fun that everyone is having in the music video. And although a little different from the hazy-ness of their previous songs, if the album turns out just like this single I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Their new album In Heaven will be out September 27th, 2011 via Domino Records.
