HOLY GHOST! "On Board" (Friendly Fires Cover) MP3

Holy Ghost! Photo by Shawn Brackbill

Though I was not on the Friendly Fires trail, I have been quite a fan of New York’s Holy Ghost! ever since “Hold On” came out.  And though I’ve been waiting for their full-length for quite sometime, a knob twisting job of Friendly Fire’s “On Board” will have to surpress the appetite for now.  Turning the already thumping song into a nu-disco anthem easily soothes today’s New York snowstorm into a stay in your room and booty thump it day.  It’s enjoyable.

The single will be released March 8th, 2010 on DFA and XL Records.  The single will also contain a cover of “Hold On” by Friendly Fires.

CLUB 8 "Western Hospitality" MP3

Club 8

The Swedish king and queen (though not a couple) of pop are back at it again with a brand new single and album in sight.  After having the hemispheres vibrate with their brilliant pop mannerisms in 2007’s The Boy Who Couldn’t Stop Dreaming, the duo teamed up for the first time with producer Jari Haapalainen (The Concretes, Camera Obscura, Ed Harcourt).  What Jari brings out of the duo seems to be a much brighter light than what most fans may be used to. The sounds of tropicalia and rumba are at the base of the song while the anthemic chorus rings throughout.  But Karolina Komstedt’s voice is still quite familiar and Johan Angergård’s writing reminiscent.   Listen to it in their new track “Western Hospitality” set to be released on April 7th, 2010 on Labrador Records.  And six albums later, their new album The People’s Record will be released May 18th, 2010 in Labrador Records as well.

THE RADIO DEPT. "Heaven's On Fire" MP3

The Radio Dept.

What’s there to say? How often is it that a Swedish artist has released music that wasn’t above par regardless of tastes. Quintessential fuzz-pop heroes The Radio Dept. better known for their contribution to Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette have finally announced their third album Clinging to a Scheme. With much anticipation of the last few singles, The Radio Dept. has released another single from the album titled “Heaven’s On Fire.”

Sticking to the formula based from their sophomore album Pet Grief, all of the fuzz is in tact. But unlike the previous album, “Heaven’s On Fire” shares a common vibe from their previous single “David.” Though lyrically brooding, the mood has been lifted and if one were to miss out on the lyrics, the music itself will have you dreaming of white puffy clouds while you drown in a bed of white sheets and elephant-sized puffy pillows.

goWith two great singles already released, we are in for another classic album.  Clinging to a Scheme will be released April 21, 2010 on Swedish label Labrador Records.
