LYKKE LI “Get Some” (Beck Remix) STREAM

Lykke Li

Lykke Li’s “Get Some” has really been growing on me. The percussion that starts off the track is an absolute killer. In this remix by Beck, he keeps the thundering atmosphere but adds that grit that he’s been known for in his rock songs. Cutting and chopping up beat box like beats and adding crunchy guitars really pounds your ears with an extra punch.

JAMIE LIDELL “Compass”

Jamie Lidell "Compass"The electro-soul bending wizard has returned with the quickness of lightning. With the help of his calvary (including Beck, Feist, Grizzly Bear Chris Taylor, James Gadson, Daniel Rossen and others) his alchemy of funk, soul, electro and holleration can be heard on this new track “Compass.”  Much like its predecessors, the soulful vibe have been retained and is accompanied by a deconstruction of old sounding vintage drum beats and hidden echoes of the future beneath it.  The lead single from his upcoming album of the same title shows no deviation from the master’s creative mind.

As a big fan of Jamie Lidell’s Multiply and Jim (and having major respect for Muddling Gears) I am quite curious to see where the rest of the album goes.  Will it be a culmination of all the directions he’s gone or will it continue the jam sessions from the previous two albums.  Just seeing the list of collaborators on this album let’s you know that it’s going to sound like an instant classic.

Compass is going to be released May 18th, 2009 on Warp Records.

BECK Modern Guilt

BECK Modern GuiltThe shape shifting troubadour is back again and pretty quick this time. Twenty-four years later Beck is still at it and always sharp to keep ears guessing where he’s headed. Every album since Mellow Gold has had their own characteristics, style, flavor, whatever you want to call it. But with each album, Beck always retains his signature finger prints and his vocals always remain strong and identifiably iconic.

The first track I heard from his new record was “Chemtrails.” I heard the song a few weeks back and the ethereal difference compared to the songs on his two previous albums Guero and The Information. Maybe Modern Guilt was a return to his heart-breaking swooning album Sea Change. But has more tracks began to surface and the preview trailer for the album was revealed, Modern Guilt revealed other tunes that were on a different altitude from the moody “Chemtrails.”

BECK “Chemtrails” MP3

Beck

I haven’t really been paying attention lately. I’ve been stacked with work and with music coming out the wazoo it’s hard to keep track of what’s been going out. Every band since the Radiohead fiasco has been pushing their releases ahead of time or even surprising us with brand new albums right away.

Well, there’s been news that Beck is already at work and will be unleashing something quite new real soon.

But the big news is that a clip of a track called “Chemtrails” from the upcoming record has leaked. In collaboration with DangerMouse, the track completely takes us to a path where Beck may have never tip toed into. The song is dark, ethereal, surreal and dreamy. It almost feels like something David Bowie may have conjured up. But is it of no coincidence that David Bowie a few years ago has hand-picked Beck as one of today’s cream of the crop?

I had always fantasized about Beck going elecro-bossa nova, but where ever this album may take us may be quite a colorful journey. Fingers crossed for some more goodness from the multi-masked wonder.
