CULTS "Go Outside" (Menahan Street Band Remix) MP3

Cults

The cool thing about indie pop songs these days is that I’ve seen and heard more and more of them remixed. Although I don’t consider Cults to be part of the “indie pop community,” their song “Go Outside” has brought them to stardom in the sense songs such as “Postcards From Italy” did for Beirut.

Now, their cult (haha, get it? Cult? haha…) hit “Go Outside” was previously remixed by Brainbheats which took their sugary pop single into a electronic realm. But this new Menahan Street Band remix keeps the song’s fun pop aspects and adds a more nostalgic element with the more sixties jangling guitars and organs much more prominent. It’s not to different from the original but adds just enough of a different vibe to make it more than fun enough to add to your collection.

CULTS "Go Outside" MP3 + OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

Cults

So yeah, I guess Cults have sort of “blown up” since I first blogged about them. The power of the internets to take their song “Go Outside” to be first posted on their BandCamp and then later less than a year later released by Columbia Records is really something. Since then, the track has gone through remixes and unofficial music videos. Today, they released their official music video for the track. Using footage from the Brian Jonestown Massacre, I can’t tell if they’re trying to use it as a provocative way of getting more attention or just reinforcing their ideas of Cults and where they got their name. Although the actual vintage footage as well as newly shot footage kind of sparks the “nostalgia” feeling of old pop music, the subject in the video is also kind of a hard topic to be sun-shiny about.

CULTS “Go Outside” (Brainbheats Remix) MP3

Cults

Going from the obscurity of only having a Band Camp website to now touring the country, being on the radar of Pitchfork Media, Perez Hilton, NME and even MTV, Cults have developed themselves a media cult following. If you haven’t been touched by the viral cult bug, then you may have already missed out completely.  But producer, instrumentalist, composer and performer Brainbheats did not miss out and decided to give Cults’ hit “Go Outside” a touch of his own. Simple in origins, the breezy pop song receives a few hounding dance beats melding the two genres. One may now expect the song at your local hipster dance club. Or maybe yet, if things keep rolling the way they are for Cults; a Volkswagen commercial.
