SILVER SWANS “Best Friend In Love” (Black Swan Remix) TRAILER

Black Silver Swans

I recently ranted about the brilliant film Black Swan. Well, YouTube user robdeppjrm created a fan made trailer for the film. He cut up some of the most striking moments of the film and put it all together. It made the film feel much darker. I put Silver Swans’ track “Best Friend In Love” over the trailer and it fit. During the film, Nina was at war with herself – her own best friend. So the track “Best Friend In Love” would’ve been a perfect fit for a track on the soundtrack.

MORTAL KOMBAT Rebirth MOVIE TRAILER

Mortal Kombat Rebirth

I first saw this trailer at Kotaku. A trailer for a possible new Mortal Kombat movie.  And let me tell you, it looks pretty damn sick.  A reinvention is what the franchise needed. This may be the boost to help it revitalize itself not only as the long-time competitor of Street Fighter but of a story that was unique and a game that broke boundaries for its time.

The trailer itself features Michael Jai White as Jacks, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and Chris Casamassa as Scorpion (from the original movie). Reptile, Baraka and Sub-Zero are also featured. So far with a cast that has actual acting experience and two with great martial arts credentials, this could be what everyone has been waiting for. The filming technique looks to be much more “realistic” and following the whole Saw franchise’s dirty gritty look, but it works. Mortal Kombat itself had a dark storyline. Although the plot has not been completely revealed, there are some definite changes. Will we have the four-armed Goro? Is Shang Tsung still a wizard? Are we going to have power blasts coming out of Liu Kang’s hands? We won’t know for quite sometime.  What we do know is that this trailer brings that R rating that Mortal Kombat brought to the video game ratings back in the nineties.  There is definitely more than just gore on our hands here. Hopefully, a combination of realism and fantasy will be used to blend both worlds.

But expect a lot of fan boys who think they know better to hate as usual. Just reminding you fan boys that it’s 2010 and not 1995. By the time this movie comes out it will have almost been two decades. Times have changed and things need to be changed.  I’d rather have the Mortal Kombat franchise and world live-on rather than just being another Pong.

May my excitement not be changed when this is finally released.

HELLBOY II: The Golden Army

HELLBOY II

Red is back and so is Guillermo del Toro. After a short stint having released El Laberinto del fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth) and producing The Orphanage, he helmed the anticipated HellBoy II: The Golden Army.

TOKYO! (Movie Trailer) w Michel Gondry, Bong Joon-ho and Leos Carax

Three non-Japanese directors decide to go at it.  Michel Gondry, Bong Joon-ho and Leos Carax have created 30-minute films depicting what their outlook is on life in general day-to-day Tokyo.  With each director not only being non-Japanese but coming from different backgrounds and culture, it is going to be an interesting insight as to how they view the city.

The triptych film will make it’s debut at Cannes.  The Cannes 2008 festival takes place from May 14-25.

ANAMORPH

ANAMORPHUsually forcing yourself to choose a film that doesn’t have limited screening can lead to finding a gem or a waste of $11.00 and a future online rental. Well, Anamorph somewhat falls between both landscapes.

Now I briefly scanned the synopsis before I took off to go watch the movie. I was looking at a still shot from the film and even though I knew it was William Dafoe, I didn’t really think about it until the film began. Well, just letting you know that I am not really a fan of his.

SMART PEOPLE

SMART PEOPLEHow many more times are they going to keep coming out with films that revolve around a family with intrapersonal communication issues with a soundtrack that maybe have an indie vibe? Well, regardless of how many times they do I will most likely end up participating in the purchase of that too expensive of a ticket.

Now you have the tag line “Sometimes the smartest people have the most to learn” and in most aspects of common sense that is true. But whether these scripted characters were able to put that in
