Sondre Lerche

Bad bad bad fan of me. Having been a fan of Sondre Lerche since he released his first album Faces Down in 2002, I have collected every single song, b-side, import, EP and album that he has put out. There was just something about this wunderkid and his ability to inject the root of pop music in all of his undertakings. Whether it be the chamber pop sounds of his first album Faces Down to the more rocking side Phantom Punch and the songwriter mentality of his last album Heartbeat Radio, he had a focus for each of his songs and albums. He always saw them through.

But since he moved to Brooklyn, I have coincidentally (considering I live in New York) missed out on his most recent work.

Now almost a decade later he released his sixth album. The self-titled album has him writing songs even more mature, stronger, tighter than ever. He still experiments with production and has honored all of his favorite songwriters of past. His songwriting intelligence is on par with those. Songs such as “Private Caller” “Ricochet” and “Go Right Ahead” are testimonies to that.

The album was lead by the first single “Domino.” The song is a culmination of the catalog that must be reaching at least almost one hundred songs. The song is solemn driven by Lerche’s vocals that has never failed him once. It’s strong and emotive singing the witty lyrics he’s known for. The rest is mostly accompanied by his rustic acoustic guitar and features production values that a keen ear would cherish and value.

If you’re a Sondre Lerche fan your collection will love the addition of his sixth. If you’re a fan of solid songwriting and recording your thirst will be quenched.
