Now this is more like it. From Toro Y Moi’s forthcoming Underneath The Pine, the lead single “Still Sound” is a combination of psychedelic funk and touch of 70s pop ala Brian Wilson or Harry Nilsson. And also the fact that it was recorded with a live band makes the ambiance feel more like a jam session rather than just some studio production. It makes me think back when I was listening to artists that weren’t scared to mix genres and all the while have stay within the boundaries of writing a classic pop song. So while I’m waiting for Beck to come up with a new fun album, I’ll be anticipating Toro Y Moi’s Underneath The Pine. It will be released February 22nd via Carpark Records.
