Kacey Johansing photo by Dominic Santos

The moment I heard the low key organic keys playfully pounce I thought Swedish?  Then I heard the subtle airy vocals by Kacey and thought Swedish?  Then I looked at her last name Johansing and thought Swedish? Then I decided to read up on Kacey Johansing and found out that is American born and currently resides in San Francisco.  Whether my investigative skills were correct about her being Swedish and now possibly of Swedish descent, the sweet three minute pop tune she’s written titled “Oh, Brother” had me thinking Swedish Pop.  Or maybe being from the Bay could simply make me shut up.  But in reality, what Swedish Pop writers tend to take from are classic American pop songs from artists such as The Beach Boys, Harry Nilsson or Carole King.  America had numerous pop artists from the 70s that wrote incredible simple pop songs.  And “Oh, Brother” reflects that era.  It’s a simple and whimsical track that is graceful from beginning to end.  Kacey ends the song with the lyrics “I will chase after you even though you’re calling me names.” Charming.

Her full-length album Many Seasons will be released June 15th, 2010 on Porto Franco Records.
