JACK WHITE “Quit Playing Video Games”

Jack White

As an avid fan of video games and music, I maybe should have listened to Jack White if he were to have stated this to me over a decade ago.  Or at least made up my mind between the two industries to partake in.

In an interview with NME, Jack White was asked what three things new artists need to do today (in order to succeed I assume): “They need to quit playing video games, throw away their Auto-Tune program and cut three strings off their guitar.”  White stated.  With more than successful endeavors with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather he is one not to be questioned.  Years of playing guitar and having collaborated with other greats (and legends) such as Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page, The Edge, Beck, Loretta Lyn and countless others have also lead him to being labeled as one of Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

Jack White also expressed that “It’s depressing to have a label come and tell you that [Guitar Hero] is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music.”

Video games today are one of the leading forms of entertainment barely scathed by the economic recession.  Even Jack White will be receiving royalty checks for “Blue Orchid” by The White Stripes being used in Guitar Hero 5 and a track The Raconteurs in Guitar Hero: World Tour.  Either way, Jack White has been a true representation of what sincere passion can lead to.  Even if it is for video games, play your video games the way Jack White played his guitar.  Jack White has been a true representation of what sincere passion can lead to.  Even if it is for video games, play your video games the way Jack White played his guitar.  Maybe you’ll become the next programmer or artist to cash in on video games tomorrow.
