So yeah, I guess Cults have sort of “blown up” since I first blogged about them. The power of the internets to take their song “Go Outside” to be first posted on their BandCamp and then later less than a year later released by Columbia Records is really something. Since then, the track has gone through remixes and unofficial music videos. Today, they released their official music video for the track. Using footage from the Brian Jonestown Massacre, I can’t tell if they’re trying to use it as a provocative way of getting more attention or just reinforcing their ideas of Cults and where they got their name. Although the actual vintage footage as well as newly shot footage kind of sparks the “nostalgia” feeling of old pop music, the subject in the video is also kind of a hard topic to be sun-shiny about.
