I’ve always thought the few legit people that exist in New York City has to be from the Bronx. And well, mister William Johnson aka Gordon Voidwell is from the Bronx. And if you take his homegrown experiences of the “schizophrenic” energy the city exerts along with Prince-like funk and soul jams, you’ll get Gordon Voidwell. He’s already been praised by Mark Ronson and collaborated with Ralph Lauren. If you’ve been paying attention you may have heard his remixes for acts such as Das Racist, Twin Shadow and Mike Posner.
So if you haven’t heard, now you need to get heard. His track “Disco Afternoon” is a spiral of all of those influences. You could even jam in some of that modern take on nostalgic soul and funk the way mister Jamie Lidell has.
And what’s even more exciting? He’s got a collaboration going on with one my favorite artists Wallpaper. The mix of authentic east coast and west coast funk science is making me wet. Whatever comes out of the collaboration, l I know it’s going to absolutely kill it!
