Ian Kevin Curtis
(15 July 1956 – 18 May 1980)
“Today mark’s the 30 year anniversary of one of music’s most underrated yet loved icons. Ian Curtis the lead frontman for Joy Division has left a huge mark in music. Though their reign was short-lived we can see the moody and dark vibes imprinted in many of today’s artists. From Interpol, Franz Ferdinand , The Killers, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Love and Rockets, Catherine Wheel to U2, Ian Curtis and Joy Division has influenced an army of artists.
In Macclesfield, Pitchfork reported “the Northern Chamber Orchestra is working with students from two local schools to compose a symphony based on three Joy Division songs.” Spinner reports that the town will also have a “Summer Walk Tour” in which one will receive a guided tour that will follow the steps from his home, King School where he received his education and was kicked out, Travellers’ Rest and Krumbles nightclub which hosted early Joy Division gigs, Travellers’ Rest and Krumbles nightclub which hosted early Joy Division gigs and even 77 Barton Street, the home of Curtis and his wife Debbie, and the scene of the singer’s suicide at age 23.
Before his death, Joy Division released their single “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” After that, the rest is history but the song and Ian Curtis has lived on.
