The electro-soul bending wizard has returned with the quickness of lightning. With the help of his calvary (including Beck, Feist, Grizzly Bear Chris Taylor, James Gadson, Daniel Rossen and others) his alchemy of funk, soul, electro and holleration can be heard on this new track “Compass.” Much like its predecessors, the soulful vibe have been retained and is accompanied by a deconstruction of old sounding vintage drum beats and hidden echoes of the future beneath it. The lead single from his upcoming album of the same title shows no deviation from the master’s creative mind.
As a big fan of Jamie Lidell’s Multiply and Jim (and having major respect for Muddling Gears) I am quite curious to see where the rest of the album goes. Will it be a culmination of all the directions he’s gone or will it continue the jam sessions from the previous two albums. Just seeing the list of collaborators on this album let’s you know that it’s going to sound like an instant classic.
Compass is going to be released May 18th, 2009 on Warp Records.
