THE RADIO DEPT. “Heaven’s On Fire” MP3

The Radio Dept.

What’s there to say? How often is it that a Swedish artist has released music that wasn’t above par regardless of tastes. Quintessential fuzz-pop heroes The Radio Dept. better known for their contribution to Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette have finally announced their third album Clinging to a Scheme. With much anticipation of the last few singles, The Radio Dept. has released another single from the album titled “Heaven’s On Fire.”

Sticking to the formula based from their sophomore album Pet Grief, all of the fuzz is in tact. But unlike the previous album, “Heaven’s On Fire” shares a common vibe from their previous single “David.” Though lyrically brooding, the mood has been lifted and if one were to miss out on the lyrics, the music itself will have you dreaming of white puffy clouds while you drown in a bed of white sheets and elephant-sized puffy pillows.

goWith two great singles already released, we are in for another classic album.  Clinging to a Scheme will be released April 21, 2010 on Swedish label Labrador Records.

THE GOLDEN FILTER "Hide Me" MP3

New York’s The Golden Filter was a hidden in the shows as a secret weapon for a little while.  But not too long after that weapon was unleashed and New York garnered another ally in its army against terrible music.  The duo Penelope and Stephen have taken their luscious dream pop towards the direction of finally realizing a full-length album.  Their debut album Voluspa will be reaching our ears April 26th, 2010 via Brille Records.  The new single “Hide Me” continues the band’s success with “Solid Gold” and “Thunderbird.”  Penelope’s airy vocals, nostalgic eighties beats and shimmering synths are all over this track.  Lyrically it takes me back to a time when The Never Ending Story made me not afraid of books and in love with fantasy.  The single will be officially released April 19th, 2010 via Brille Records.

JAMIE LIDELL "Compass"

Jamie Lidell "Compass"The electro-soul bending wizard has returned with the quickness of lightning. With the help of his calvary (including Beck, Feist, Grizzly Bear Chris Taylor, James Gadson, Daniel Rossen and others) his alchemy of funk, soul, electro and holleration can be heard on this new track “Compass.”  Much like its predecessors, the soulful vibe have been retained and is accompanied by a deconstruction of old sounding vintage drum beats and hidden echoes of the future beneath it.  The lead single from his upcoming album of the same title shows no deviation from the master’s creative mind.

As a big fan of Jamie Lidell’s Multiply and Jim (and having major respect for Muddling Gears) I am quite curious to see where the rest of the album goes.  Will it be a culmination of all the directions he’s gone or will it continue the jam sessions from the previous two albums.  Just seeing the list of collaborators on this album let’s you know that it’s going to sound like an instant classic.

Compass is going to be released May 18th, 2009 on Warp Records.
