Little Jackie is Imani Coppola and Adam Pallin. Vocalist, lyricist, song writer Coppola and multi-instrumentalist and programmer Pallin released their debut record The Stoop last month. Today they placed Summerstage in New York’s Central Park. Having only heard a few of the tracks from their MySpace, I was kind of excited to see how they would sound live. Yes, I was far from the stage and I had worried about the sound would be drowned out by the open space. But to my surprised they sounded great! Their hybrid-Motown and old-school RnB influenced pop penetrated that open air. Coppola’s vocals were smooth and her back up singers sung along bright. The set was all too short just at 30 minutes. But there were some feet pouncin’, hips shaking and even booties bouncing’ along. Little Jackie may not be receiving the spotlight like their contemporary Amy Winehouse may have been, but their music is just as timeless.
The track “The World Should Revolve Around Me” chimes in dinging making it an easy hook. With a theme so global it’s not hard to believe that this song won’t be a sing along hit by the end of the year. The lyrics and vibe are so positive that it’ll make anyone single out there quite proud.
Little Jackie has nothing to fret about, their soul-fused pop songs will stick around and they can sing out “Yessiree, the whole world should revolve around me!” all they want.
